Registering A Death

The registration of the death should take place in the county where the death occurred. If no relative is available then the duty may be performed by any person present at the death, the occupier of the premises where the death took place, or the person who is accepting responsibility for arranging the funeral . If the person passed away at the hospital or at home anywhere within Bridgend County Borough, you will need to register the death at one of the following locations:

Bridgend Register Office, Monday – Friday between 9.30 am and 4 pm.

Trinity Church, Porthcawl – Mondays only between 10 am and 12.30 pm. “Please note that this is by appointment only at this venue. Please ring 01656 642393 to make necessary arrangements first”

The Registrar will require the following information about the deceased

Date and place of death
Full name
Date and place of birth
Occupation
Home address
If they were in receipt of a pension or allowance from public funds
If applicable, the date of birth of the surviving spouse

The Registrar will also require the:

Medical Certificate of Cause of Death

The Registrar may issue a green certificate for burial or cremation which is required by us prior to the funeral. Certified copies of the entry of death can be obtained for a small charge – these may be needed for legal or financial purposes.
